Coventry City have completed the signing of defender Danny Pugh on a one-year deal with an option for a further year.

The left-back, 31, penned a deal to join the Sky Blues following the end of his contract with Championship side Leeds United.

Pugh progressed through the youth system at Manchester United and moved on to two-year spells at Leeds and Preston North End respectively before joining Premier League side Stoke City in 2008.

The attacking full-back made more than 80 appearances in the top flight and cup competitions for the Potters before heading back to Elland Road in 2012 on a two-year contract which ended this summer.

Manager Steven Pressley said: "We're delighted to be able to welcome someone of Danny's experience and quality. I've maintained that we only bring in players that improve the quality of the squad and Danny certainly ticks that box for us.

"He's shown throughout his career that he is not only defensively resolute but also poses an attacking threat which made him a definitive target for us as we build for next season.

"Danny will also be a positive influence on our younger players who continue to show promise and they will only benefit from his presence on the pitch and in the dressing room."
