The Sky Blues defender admitted his ankle injury was a frustrating one, but hopes to make a first-team return soon...

Coventry City defender Danny Pugh admitted it has been a frustrating few months as he continues to come back from injury.

Pugh, who signed on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United in the summer, has made seven appearances for the Sky Blues and has spent time on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

But the 32-year-old is eager to return and began his return to full fitness with the full 90 minutes for the Under-21s yesterday.

"I felt alright, it was my first game back for a long time," Pugh said.

"Obviously I have to get some rustiness out the system and that will continue to come.

"I got the injury at the start of season and unfortunately I did it again after the Bristol City game. It's the first time I've ever had the injury and it's been a very frustrating time for me, but hopefully I'm past it now and can really push on from here.

"It's important for me to keep getting that match fitness and I'm pleased to get 90 minutes, I really want to get back now."

Pugh was one of the experienced players in a side that featured five Under-18s yesterday afternoon in Sheffield.

While not at their best in the first-half, the former Manchester United man was impressed with the youngsters' response in the second 45 minutes.

He continued: "I think the lads played quite well despite the result.

"Obviously we have conceded some disapointing goals, but that aside the young lads responded well and showed what good players they are playing against older opposition.

"The second-half performance was better and they worked really hard. I enjoyed the game despite losing and want to get back playing and hopefully in the first-team soon."
