Coventry City lend support to joint initiative between Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre and Coventry City Council
Coventry City Football Club is proud to be supporting a joint initiative between the Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC) and Coventry City Council.
The initiative, ‘Rape is Rape in any language’, has been launched to focus on the needs of survivors of rape and sexual abuse and a video has been produced to highlight the campaign. You can watch the video below.
Representatives from the club attended the launch of the video and got the opportunity to hear the story of a survivor, who was present on the day. Actors who performed in the DVD also explained why they got involved in the campaign and narrated stories based on survivors’ real life experiences.
Dianne Whitfield, CRASAC chief officer, said: “This is the first ever campaign in Coventry that focuses on the victims and survivors and their needs. It is trying to talk directly to them as well as educate people who may not be aware of the dreadful trauma rape and sexual abuse causes.
“In that sense it is quite ground-breaking. I hope that people really get involved in the campaign, spreading the message that rape is rape in any language and is acceptable in none.
“We are very grateful for the support of many groups, including Coventry City Football Club, who have been very keen to help promote the campaign.”
Stacie McDermott, Coventry City’s marketing manager, said: “CRASAC does a great job in highlighting what can be a subject that people find uncomfortable to talk about publicly or even taboo.
“That is why we feel it is so important to support them – we ran for them in the Coventry Fun Run earlier this year – and will help them to raise awareness of this campaign.”
The campaign can be followed on Twitter through the hashtag #rapeisrape and @CRASAC.
