Coventry City Ladies first team Manager Craig Nicholls was joined midfielder Helen Dermody and Reserve Team and Under 15 Head Coach Jay Bradford to celebrate the launch of the brand new Sky Blues in the Community Girl’s Football Centre this week.

The centre is open to girls aged 5 to 8 years old and runs weekly at St Finbarr’s Sports and Social Club, in Holbrooks, Coventry coached by female members of the Sky Blues in the Community team.

Coventry City Ladies were on hand to show their support for the initiative, by visiting the first session on Tuesday evening. Sky Blues in the Community and Coventry City Ladies will be working together over the coming months to promote the centre with a view to feeding young players into the a brand new Coventry City Ladies Junior team at Under 9 age group from next season.

Craig Nicholls, first team manager of Coventry City Ladies said  “It is great to see an all girls football development centre and hopefully it can give girls the opportunity to play football and be confident in an environment that supports them in their development.

“Hopefully between us we can help find the stars of the future.“

Toni Wellings, Women and Girls Coach at Sky Blues in the Community added “We are offering a fun place for girls to come and play – whether they already play for a team, or if they have never kicked a ball before.”

“The centre is designed to get young girls playing in a female-only environment early on, to help them with the transition from playing in mixed teams, into female only sides, if that’s what they want to do. If girls just want to come and have a kick around and try football for the first time, that is on offer for them as well.”

The Girl’s Football Centre takes place every week at St Finbarr’s Sports and Social Club on Holbrooks Lane in Coventry, from 5.30 – 7.00pm. Girls can join at any time, with the first session being free, with each session costing £4 thereafter.
