Coventry City are celebrating four nominations in this year’s Coventry Sports Awards.

The 2014 Coventry Sports Awards celebrate and reward the outstanding achievements of Coventry’s exceptional sporting successes in professional and amateur sport.

This year’s awards ceremony takes place at Dallas Burston Polo Club on Thursday, November 20, and the club have received nominations in three categories, in addition to sponsoring the Junior Team of the Year Award.

Steven Pressley has been nominated as a finalist in the Manager/Coach of the Year category.

Ryan Haynes’ rise to the Sky Blues first team has been recognised with a nomination in the Professional Young Sportsperson of the Year category.

And Pat Raybould, who has been a City fan for more than 50 years, and is an integral part of the football club due to her fantastic efforts running events in the Family Zone at each home game, has been shortlisted for the Community Award.

Pat will be going head-to-head with Coventry City goalkeeping coach and 1987 FA Cup hero Steve Ogrizovic in the community award category, who will also present the Junior Team of the Year award.

And to top that, Coventry City Ladies are also nominated for team of the year.

The ceremony will also serve as a fundraiser for local charities Zoe’s Place and The Snowball Trust, and Pressley is delighted to see the club so well represented.

“As a club at the centre of the community it is important that we get involved in events such as this, which celebrate the sporting achievements of those not only in a professional capacity, but also amateurs and volunteers,” said Pressley.

“It is great that we are sponsoring the Junior Team of the Year Award, as this further demonstrates our commitment to the progression of young people in sport.

“I am also pleased that Pat has been recognised for all the work she does in inspiring the next generation of Coventry City supporters.

“Pat, along with her team of volunteers, epitomises what a community football club is all about and it is only right that her contribution is acknowledged.

“It is fantastic to see Ryan rewarded too because, as I have said before, young players from the local area are the lifeblood of a football club and he has shown other young players what is possible with hard work.

“I am humbled to have been nominated in the coaching category myself and I am looking forward to a fantastic evening.

“It is also great to see Coventry City Ladies nominated and we will be cheering for them in their category.”
