"Wycombe will provide us with a difficult test but it is a competition we want to progress in." - Coventry City manager Steven Pressley

The City boss has also revealed he is looking to give some of the younger players a chance to shine in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy...

Despite the congested fixture list, City manager Steven Pressley expects a committed performance from his Sky Blues in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round clash against Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow.

The Sky Blues boss has suggested that he will make changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Swindon on Saturday, and give fringe players an opportunity to stake their claim for a first team place.

"First things first, we're going there to win," he said, "I probably will make changes, and give some of our younger players a chance, as well as utilising the squad because it will be three games in seven days.

"Having said that of course we want to win the game, I want to see our younger players take the opportunity and show how good they are.”

City lost at this stage on penalties to Leyton Orient last season, but they can take inspiration from two seasons ago, where they made it to the Northern Section final, playing in front of a sold out Ricoh Arena against Crewe Alexandra.

Pressley is confident that his side can progress, and says that getting the balance between playing youngsters and keeping the squad fit and healthy is crucial in periods of fixture congestion.

The City boss continued: "It is a tough balance but I am a manager who trusts his younger players, and I'd like to think the young guys realise that it's a great opportunity to show me what they are capable of.

"One thing we can't lose sight of is that we need to develop our own young players and we have to look further ahead. Our young players are a big part of that but I'm happy with how things are progressing, we're still meeting our short term goals.

"It is a good Wycombe side we are facing tomorrow, who have started the season well, really hard working. It will be a real test for us, but I am sure we can do the job."
