The City boss hopes to sign a replacement for Reda Johnson next week and credits Colchester United's attacking threats...
Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed the club won't bring in a defender before the weekend's game against Colchester United.
Mowbray and his staff have been working hard all week to identify a suitable replacement for Reda Johnson, who has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
The search will continue into next week with the Sky Blues set to start centre-back pairing Aaron Martin and Sam Ricketts at the Weston Homes Community Stadium tomorrow.
Mowbray has admitted the club is closer to bringing someone in but believes it will now be next week.
The City boss said: "We're closer, but it won't be for this weekend. I'm hopeful of getting a defender in next week.
"When you go out in the media and talk about needing a defender, every agent in the northern hemisphere picks up the phone and starts calling you.
"They all want to suggest players to me and tell me they've got the right one. It is up to us to look at the options and assess which is the best one for us.
"We'll continue looking over the next few days and I'm sure we'll be able to tie one up next week."
Colchester United are currently 16th in the League One table, recording one league win in their last five games, but did record a 6-2 victory over Wealdstone United in the FA Cup last week.
Mowbray admitted the U's have plenty of attacking threats across the pitch but wants his side to test their defence tomorrow.
He added: "They've got some good experience in their team now. Players like Marvin Sordell at the top, Callum Harriott playing off the left and George Moncur through the middle, there is plenty of threat there.
"They've also got Darren Ambrose playing off the right with Owen Garven in central midfield so it shows they've got plenty of attacking talent which we've got to be wary of.
"We've got to get the balance of our preparations right and go and ask questions of them, as I'm sure they'll ask questions of us.
"It will be an entertaining game but I hope we can go and ask some real questions of their defence and get an important result."
