Coventry City manager Steven Pressley praised his side's attitude and their second half performance as City beat Port Vale 2-0 at Vale Park to give them their second league win of the season.

Goals from Reda Johnson and Gary Madine after the break won the game for the Sky Blues, who now sit 14th in the SkyBet league One table.

Pressley also said that City's defending had improved and was something they had worked on particularly in training during the week.

"It was a great win," he said. "The first half was disappointing, we had a lot of possession but the final decision kept letting us down.

"In the second half we were better, the first goal came from a great cross and a great header from Reda. It was the bit of quality we had been lacking.

"One thing I couldn't fault at all was the application and attitude, it was fantastic. I am really really pleased with that aspect.

"We kept it solid at the back, everyone knew their defensive duties. That defensive strategy was something we worked hard on during the week and it came off today."

The Sky Blues boss was particularly pleased with Andy Webster and loanee Matthew Pennington, who supplied the cross for Johnson's goal.

He also gave credit to midfielder Adam Barton, who played the full 90 minutes twice in four days.

He continued: "I thought Webster was immense today. For the last five or six games he has been our rock. Reda was immense too, since I moved him there he's been outstanding, his desire to get into the box was great.

"Pennington was fantastic today, that's his third game and you can see he has been schooled excellently. He is a winner and his character is impeccable.

"Adam Barton was also very good, he built on Wednesday's performance and really showed his defensive duties, something that may have been lacking in the past. They all contributed to today's win."
