Coventry City manager Steven Pressley stated that he accepts the criticism of himself from the club’s supporters.
The Sky Blues boss admitted that he is fully aware of the fans frustrations and while he understands that he will be criticised for the team’s run of form, he is determined to turn it around.
“I never read the papers but I am fully aware of the fans criticism of myself and the team,” Pressley said.
“The one thing I would say is that I have no complaints about that. Since I’ve come to the club, the fans have been exceptional towards me since I’ve come here and have been hugely supportive. I think they appreciate what we’ve been through, but I really do understand that doesn’t make you immune to criticism.
“I would expect criticism right now and I absolutely accept it. The one thing I’ll never get away from is trying to turn this club into a very successful club and their frustration is felt by myself as well, as I said last week the sleepless nights and the efforts we’re putting in to turn this around. These fans have been brilliant with me and I think we can turn it again. Don’t think I don’t understand the fans criticism.
“It wasn’t so long ago that I signed a new contract and people were pleased but that’s football and how it changes and I’m more determined than ever to turn it back in the right direction.”
The next chance for the Sky Blues to end their recent dip is away at Colchester tomorrow, with City currently 20th in the League One table.
Pressley has stressed once more that his players have to show the desire to win the game and has labelled the match at the Colchester Community Stadium as “vitally important” to the team’s season.
The Scot added: “The mentality is to win the game. It’s a really important game for us and I’ve stressed that to the players all week. We’ve worked so hard and trained extremely well this week but regardless of the details we go in to that merely provide us a foundation, the result will come from desire and mentality - so if we put that in place I think we have a good chance of winning the game.
“It is a vitally important game, a game which can give you confidence and belief to turn the run around and get the monkey off our back regarding our away form.
“Our application since the Worcester game has been very good. I’m expecting a difficult game, they’ve got really good speed in the wide area and a potent striker in Freddie Sears right now, so they’re a good team but my concentration is to understand their strengths but to impose our strengths on them. We’re all so determined to win it.”
