Callum Wilson returns in Wednesday draw

25 February 2014

The City striker completed 45 minutes as Wednesday claimed a point against City at Ryton Training Ground...

Coventry City Under-21s were left to rue missed chances as Sheffield Wednesday claimed a point in a 2-2 draw.

Callum Wilson returned to action for the Sky Blues after his recovery from a shoulder injury which he sustained in the 3-1 win over Rotherham United on New Year's Day.

After a cagey first quarter of an hour, it was City who had the first chance of the game through striker Ben Maund.

Wilson held off two defenders to put Maund in behind the Wednesday defence but his shot was well saved by Wednesday keeper Adam Davis.

Despite City's dominance, Wednesday took the lead on the half-hour. Paul Corry's header hit the bar from a right-sided corner and Khalil Lambin tapped home the rebound from close-range.

Louis Garner fired narrowly wide from 25 yards in the 35th minute but City went into the break behind.

Callum Wilson was replaced by James Maddison at half-time, and it was Maddison who helped City get level in the 55th minute.

The Under-18s forward found Maund who held off two Wednesday defenders to put Dylan McGeouch in behind to slot home.

City continued to press forward and went ahead in the 66th minute thanks to a special strike from Ryan Haynes.

The left-back found the top corner from 25 yards as the home side deservedly went into the lead.

McGeouch and substitute George Thomas both had chances to stretch City's lead but it was Wednesday who got the final goal of the game.

With seven minutes remaining, a left-sided cross found Wednesday striker Mani Dieseruvwe in space who finished past Lee Burge.

Mark Marshall hit the post and Thomas' header was well saved in the final moments of the game as City shared the points.
