Coventry City midfielder Danny Swanson revealed that manager Steven Pressley has told the squad that tomorrow's trip to Port Vale is a 'must-win' game, as City look to progress up the SkyBet League One table.Despite only one defeat in five league games, the Scottish-born playmaker is aware of the pressure caused by the Sky Blues' league position and hopes to improve on the positive aspects of Wednesday's cup exit to Bristol City at Vale Park tomorrow.
"You have to look at Port Vale as a must win game," he said. "It's been on the screens around the training ground and the manager has said to us how important it its, it's like a cup final.
"I was glad to be back Wednesday, it was my first game in a while. I was sore the morning after, but I enjoyed it.
"The game itself was frustrating, we'd worked on the formation all week and it did work, they didn't get through us in open play very much and we did create chances, we were getting in the right positions.
"We should be a lot higher in the league, hopefully that will start Saturday by getting all three points."
Although the current state of the pitch at Vale Park is superior than City's home turf, Swanson believes that the Sky Blues may have to change from their passing style on Wednesday to secure the win.
He also agreed with City boss Pressley when reflecting on his goal ratio, as Swanson is yet to find the net this season.
He continued: "The pitch was helpful to play on Wednesday, you could pass it about. Their pitch (Vale's) is similar, but it may be that you have to grind out a win, like we did against Colchester.
"It feels like all the luck is against us sometimes, like the penalty incident Wednesday, but the wins and points are what matters in the end.
"I've not got a goal this season and the manager is right, it is something I need to add to my game and am working at it."
Swanson, who joined the club on a free transfer from Peterborough United in the summer, has likened Pressley's work at City to that of Craig Levein at Scottish Premier League side Dundee United.
He continued: "I've yet to see a manager that works harder than him. Criticism of him and us is part of the game but we are working hard across all levels.
"He works the first team down to the academy. It's like when I was at Dundee United, with Craig Levein, he's in the same mould and what you are seeing now at Dundee is down to Craig and the foundations he laid there.
"I know how passionate he is, that interview after Worcester was a massive wake up call. Three points tomorrow is crucial."
