CONNECTIONS: Coventry City vs Plymouth Argyle - Reda Johnson will be looking to defeat former club

12 November 2014

The Sky Blues skipper is one of a number of players who have played for both clubs over the years...

Coventry City will face Plymouth Argyle tonight looking for a place in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy area semi-final, with one member of the current squad looking to beat his former club.

Here we look at three players who have appeared for both teams, starting with our influential skipper...

Reda Johnson

After starting his career in France with Gueugnon and Amiens, Johnson made his first move to England with Argyle in 2009.

The defender earned many plaudits for his displays at Home Park, but he could not keep them from being relegated from the Championship in 2010.

He made 44 appearances for the Pilgrims before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 2011.

Johnson was a fans favourite during three years with the Owls before signing for the Sky Blues in the summer.

Lilian Nalis

French midfielder Nalis only made six appearances for City during a loan spell in 2006.

He began his career in his native France playing for Auxerre, Caen, Laval, Guingamp, Le Havre and SC Bastia, before moving to Italy with Chievo.

He failed to make an impact in Serie A before Leicester gave him the opportunity to play in the Premier League in 2003. The Foxes were relegated, but one of the highlights of their campaign was Nalis' 25-yard thunderbolt in a 4-0 victory over Leeds United.

Nalis stayed with the club despite relegation, but moved to Sheffield United in 2005.

He lost his place with the Blades though, and in 2005 he moved to City on loan.

His spell at the Ricoh lasted a month, where he played six games scoring two goals. He moved to Home Park in 2006 though, and was voted the fans player of the year for the 2006/07 season.

After 107 games for Argyle, he moved to Swindon and CA Bastia before retiring in 2010.

Micky Quinn

Signing for Coventry in 1992 before spells with Wigan Athletic, Atockport County, Oldham Athletic, Portsmouth and Newcastle, Quinn set Premier League history with the Sky Blues.

During his first six months at Highfield Road, Quinn scored 17 Premier League goals – 10 of them in his first 6 games - a Premier League record.

Quinn then scored eight goals as the Sky Blues finished in 11th place in the 1993/94 campaign, including a hat-trick against Arsenal.

But after losing his place, Quinn was loaned to Plymouth in 1994. He made three appearances in an unproductive spell and was loaned to Watford before ending his career in Greece with PAOK Thessaloniki.
