Interim manager disappointed with City's 1-0 loss to Barnsley and feels the Sky Blues had a 'clear penalty' not given…

Coventry City interim manager Neil MacFarlane felt that the Sky Blues 'didn't get going' as City lost 1-0 to Barnsley at Oakwell.

George Waring's second half header condemned City to defeat, but MacFarlane felt that his side should have had a penalty when Frank Nouble went down in the area.

"We did okay against the wind in the first half," he said. "But in the second we didn't get going and we gave away a sloppy goal.

"We talked all week about not giving away silly free kicks as their the best in the league at set pieces, but we did. We also didn't track the man.

"We didn't get going in the first 25 minutes of the second half but Frank (Nouble) and Blair (Turgott) injected some pace and we looked a bit better.

"We should have had a stonewall penalty in the second half. I've looked at it again with my analyist and it definitely should have been given. It would have been vital at that moment of the game."

MacFarlane had praise for Nouble and Turgott and felt that the game time will benefit both of them as they look to get back from injury.

He continued: "It was good to see Blair and Frank back. They did well when they came on and injected some pace into the wings.

"Them and a few more of the players are coming back from injury and it can only be good for the new gaffer going forward."
