The newest Sky Blues signing admits that a chat with former loanee Grant Ward was an influence in his move to City...

Coventry City midfielder Ruben Lameiras revealed that he joined the Sky Blues after a conversation with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Grant Ward.

Lameiras is close friends with Ward, who made 11 appearances on loan from Spurs last season.

The pair played together for the Spurs youth team and Lameiras admitted that Ward's glowing reference was a key factor in his move to City.

"Grant is one of my closest friends," the 20-year old said.

"He really enjoyed it here and I spoke to him about the club and the set-up. He gave the club a glowing reference and based on his review, I thought I should definitely come down and I'm pleased I had that chat with him!

"I've really enjoyed it and it's been a great two weeks so far. I'm just looking forward to getting some games and achieving something big for the club this season."

The Portuguese playmaker has been on trial with the club for the last two weeks and impressed in pre-season against Nuneaton Town and Portsmouth.

Lameiras wasn't fazed about being a trialist and being under pressure to impress and now wants to be a player that can excite the Sky Blues faithful.

He continued: "I've got on well with the lads and the manager is always telling me things I can do to improve. He's been a big help from day one.

"Being on trial, I've looked at it as a way to showcase what I can do, without pressure. I knew some of the boys from before and I've loved every minute, I think I've done well but I can always improve.

"I'm a player that likes to create things, I want to get fans off their seats and I want to turn that into goals and assists this season."
