Coventry City midfielder James Maddison was delighted to make his first start in four months as Dave Hockaday's Under-21 side beat Ipswich Town 1-0 at Portman Road.Maddison made his first appearance since being sidelined with a back injury in December and starred as George Thomas' second half goal was enough on a bitterly cold night in Suffolk.
The 18-year old played for 60 minutes and featured in a central 'ten' role, which the youngster believes is his best position.
"It feels good to be back playing," he said. "I'm doing what I love. It's so frustrating when you are injured but I'm back, it was a really good performance from everyone on a really good pitch and I'm delighted to get the 1-0 win.
"I think 1-0 flattered Ipswich, we played some good stuff, I think the link up between the front third was great. George Thomas and Blair Turgott were linking up brilliantly and we created some good chances.
"We also defended well and the thing is, if you are good enough and the manager is impressed then he will put you in the first team. There is no barrier here.
"Playing in that ten role is where I think that I play best, but I am happy to be utilised in any way that any of the managers see fit.
"But I like playing central, running at the defence and playing in some balls, I feel that that suits my skill set better."
Maddison is eyeing a place in Tony Mowbray's first team between now and the end of the season and feels that the squad City have is enough to keep them out of danger in League One.
However the playmaker is aware that he will have to prove himself to get in Mowbray's plans for any League One games going forward.
He continued: "Our squad on paper is far better than the position that we find ourselves in. But I feel that we have enough about us to stay well clear providing we play to our potential.
"My aim tonight and going forward is to catch the manager's eye and hopefully I've impressed."
