A look at the Sky Blues' more wackier moments on the unluckiest day of the year...
With Friday the 13th being synonymous with bad fortune, the weird and the wonderful, we've had a look through 131 years of Sky Blue history to highlight some of the more colourful events (and kits!) that we have seen.THE BROWN KIT
We start with arguably the most divisive kit in existence: the 'chocolate' brown away kit used in 1978. Created by Admiral and worn by the likes of Ian Wallace, the strip was voted number one in The Sun's poll of the 50 worst kits in football.
A one-off design was unveiled for City's 125th anniversary and was worn in the last home game of the 2008-09 season. Unfortunately the kit brought even more bad luck as a two goal lead was turned into a 3-2 defeat against Watford.
FLOODLIGHT FAILURE
From bad luck to even worse luck now, as the Sky Blues have twice been the victim of floodlight failure. Last season saw the lights go out at the Emirates Stadium as City were taking on Arsenal in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
However with the score being 2-0 at the time, and 4-0 overall, City can be at least relived that the game did not potentially end with them being in front.
But that is what exactly happened on November 25th in the 1972/73 season. In a league clash against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, play was stopped after 61 minutes as a power cut hit Suffolk, with the Sky Bues 1-0 up.
The match was abandoned and rescheduled for December 5th, which City went on to lose 2-0!
WEIRD GOALS
Finally, when it comes to weird and wonderful goals, there are that stand out from the rest. The first of which was a spectacular own goal which helped the Sky Blues to a famous 2-1 win against Arsenal at Highbury.
Lee Dixon had the ball in the Gunners' half and there seemed to be no danger. However Dixon inexplicably hit a long range back pass that sailed over the head of David Seaman and into the net in one of the most bizarre own goals ever seen. Peter Ndlovu then scored the winner to give the Sky Blues three valuable points.
Lastly, no 'weird' list can be complete without the 'Donkey Kick' goal scored by Ernie Hunt in 1970 against Everton. A truly unique free kick routine saw Willie Carr flick the ball up into the air for Hunt to smash home on the volley. The strike was voted 'Goal Of The Season' on the BBC's Match Of The Day.
