Tony Mowbray has this afternoon been announced Coventry City's new manager. The 51-year old takes over following a 17-month departure from management and has had a wildly successful playing and managing career.Here are five facts you might not know about the man known as 'Mogga'.
1) Mowbray is a Middlesbrough legend. A local lad born in nearby Saltburn, he became captain of Boro at the age of just 22 and went on to play 348 times, scoring 25 goals. He oversaw their rise back to the top level of English Football following a difficult spell and was voted number seven on a chronological list of Middlesbrough legends in 2007.
2) He scored in his last ever game in professional football. Not only that, but it was a play-off final at Wembley to boot. He scored the equaliser in Ipswich's 4-2 win over Barnsley in the 2000 First Division Play-Off final to help send the Suffolk club into the Premier League for the first time in five years. Overall he played 128 times for the Tractor Boys, scoring five times.
3) His first managerial job was at Hibernian and in his first season (2004-05) he won the SFWA Manager of the Year award, becoming the first man to win the award for a side other than the Old Firm since 1994 and securing the prize for the Hibees for the first time.
4) From there he moved to West Brom and was tasked with restructuring a Baggies side after they lost in the Play-Off final to Derby in his first season. In the season of 2007/08 he oversaw the loan or transfer of 18 players and the import of 19. Despite this he made an overall profit of £5.5 million and oversaw the Midlands side win the Championship title.
5) After a stint at Celtic he became manager of Middlesbrough and was with the Teeside club for three years. He departed in 2013 having won more games than he lost, a record which he holds at every club he has managed.
