"The boys just love playing and this is another opportunity for them to impress." Coventry City's Jason Farndon

The Sky Blues Under-18's boss has also hailed the news of James Maddison's first professional deal and the Kelly-Evans twins for getting first-team squad numbers...

Coventry City Under-18's manager Jason Farndon has admitted he is looking forward to the FA Youth Cup tie with Rochdale tomorrow night.

The Under-18's haven't had a game since the 2-2 draw with Huddersfield Town two weeks ago and travel to Spotland tomorrow night in the second round of the tournament.

Despite the break, Farndon has said that the players are ready for the game and are desperate to get back into action.

"We're delighted to be back playing," Farndon said.

"We've had two weeks off so it's good to get a game and we're pleased it's a youth cup game.

"The break came at a good time for us with a few injury set-backs. Some of the lads got some game-time for the Under-21's but it's good to be back.

"Hopefully we can name a a strong team tomorrow, but we will assess the injury doubts in the next 24 hours. We went up to watch their game last week and they are similar to us with players playing in the first team so we are up for it.

"We haven't done anything different for the game, the boys just love playing and this is another opportunity for them to impress."

During the Academy's two-week break, both Dion and Devon Kelly-Evans were given squad numbers for the first-team, while James Maddison was rewarded with his first professional contract just a day after his 18th birthday.

Farndon hailed the feats of the Academy players and is pleased with the team's progress.

He added: "During the break we've had a few first-team debuts.

"With Dion and Devon getting squad numbers I think we're on seven Under-18's with numbers now, so we're delighted. It's great for the academy and great for the boys themselves too.

"With James Maddison I think he was always able of getting the contract but getting it's a completely different thing. The manager said in the summer that a copule of the young lads could go away with them in pre-season. James got the bit between his teeth, worked hard and went away with the first-team and has impressed.

"But we have a really good group here, they're all honest and hard-working. I think Maddison will be the first to admit he has the good players around him and the group below them are good as well - which is what we strive for, to keep pushing players through the age ranges."
