'I'm not winding down' - Conor Thomas

City midfielder Conor Thomas believes City can get the right result against Brentford at the weekend...

Coventry City midfielder Conor Thomas believes the Sky Blues can take all three points when they travel to Griffin Park to face Brentford this weekend.

The Sky Blues go into the game looking to build on their 2-2 draw at home to Port Vale at Sixfields on Sunday.

The Bees have only lost once in 25 matches in League One which has seen them progress to 2nd in the table, fighting for automatic promotion to the Championship.

City midfielder Thomas, who has already made 41 appearances in all competitions this season, believes the Sky Blues play better against the top sides.

The 21-year old said: "We've been on a strange run of form lately. We've been struggling against teams who have been fighting for their lives recently which has been disappointing.

"If you look at the season, we've pulled out some great results on the road like at MK Dons, Rotherham and even the point we got at Wolves.

"We always go into every game looking to win. They're flying at the moment and playing some good stuff so it will be a challenge for us to go there and get a result.

"The pitches are definitely getting better so that will suit our passing style. With the ten points, we would have been much further up the table but without it, we look like we're in a relegation battle.

"We've got to stay mentally strong from now until the end of the season and keep playing the way which has brought us so much success."

With just ten games remaining in the season, Thomas is still putting in the extra work which has kept him at the heart of City's midfield this season.

The City midfielder is well known for doing double shifts and extra training sessions during the week, and he says the hard work has helped him get through the season.

He added: "It may be getting towards the end of the season but I'm still trying to better myself. I've stayed on a bit later with a couple of the other lads to improve on a bit of technical work.

"Obviously, I'm still doing a lot of extra gym work as well because my fitness has definitely improved this season which has helped me complete so many games.

"People may think that footballers wind down towards the end of the season but it isn't the case for me. I've got to always think about improving and continuing my development.

"Obviously, when the sun comes out, it definitely helps the extra motivation needed!"
