Sky Blues secure Sunderland full back on loan until January

Coventry City have signed young full-back Blair Adams on loan from Premier League side Sunderland up to and including January 5, 2013.

The 21-year-old, from South Shields, put pen to paper on a loan deal this week which could see him included in Mark Robins' matchday squad for the trip to Hartlepool United subject to clearance from the Premier League and Football League.

Adams, who also holds two caps at England under-20s level, graduated through Sunderland’s Academy set-up under Kevin Ball before being handed a first-team squad number in 2010/11.

He went on to become the reserves' leading appearance maker that season before spending loan spells at Brentford and, most-recently, Northampton Town towards the end of the 2011/12 season.

City boss Mark Robins said: "We're delighted to have him. He's a young player who's keen to do well and keen to make his mark.

"Sunderland have helped us out massively in the way they have pushed this through so we have to thank them for that because there was alot of interest in him but it's a big step for him and hopefully he can fulfil his potential over the period that we have him.

"He'll get forward for us, it gives us another option at left back but he's played at left wing as well so there is that option to move him up one. He's a solid youngster and he's been working under Kevin Ball at Sunderland for quite a while and Kevin is a hard task master so I'm looking forward to working with him."
