The young defender played the full 90 minutes for Wales on Tuesday and the full 90 minutes today at the Ricoh Arena...
Coventry City defender Cian Harries said that he was “more than willing to play” for the Under-21s today despite playing for the full 90 minutes for the Wales Under-19s on Tuesday in Germany.
The Red Dragons travelled to Germany to play the German Under-19 side and lost 2-0, with Harries playing at left-back for the full-game alongside club team-mate George Thomas.
Despite a day of travelling and tired legs, the 18-year old was eager to get on the pitch once more for the Sky Blues as they drew 2-2 with Huddersfield Town at the Ricoh Arena.
“I played 90 minutes for Wales but despite the short rest period I was more than willing to play,” Harries said.
“Dave Hockaday gave me the call and I was really happy to play. We lost 2-0 on Tuesday and I played left-back, which is a lot more running than at centre-back! Playing against the world champions’ youth team was a fantastic experience in Germany and I love going away with my country.
“My legs are tired! But this is what I want to do and I want to keep playing and learning, I’m looking forward to going away with the Welsh side again when we play the qualifiers in Georgia.”
Despite the tired legs, Harries completed 90 minutes for the Sky Blues in the 2-2 draw against Huddersfield.
City lead 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Blair Turgott and a Trialist to remain on a good run of form having lost just once in the last seven games.
Harries is pleased to be playing alongside more experienced players in the 21s set-up but despite keeping that good run going, the defender believes the team should have won the game.
He continued: "Obviously being 2-0 up at half-time we should have won the game there is no question about that.
"That's something we have to learn from, things like this we have to learn from and make them valuable experiences.
"We went into game in a confident mood, thinking we were going to win. They are second in the league so we knew it would be tough against a big and physical side but being 2-0 up we fully expected to win the game.
"In the first half of the season for the 21s, we were playing with lots of first-year and second-year apprentices, the likes of myself, George Thomas, Ben Stevenson, James Maddison, the Kelly-Evans twins were playing on Saturday for the 18s then on Monday with the 21s and it is tough without that recovery period.
“But we’ve got a good run going with some of the younger pros who are still eligible, the likes of Jack Finch, Ryan Haynes and Conor Thomas have been great to talk us through the game and are experienced. It’s good being with the 21s at the moment and we’re glad to keep the good form going.”
