"It was one of those days, let's put it to one side and bounce back at the Ricoh Arena next week." Coventry City's Chris Stokes

The Sky Blues full-back believes the team just had an off day and is eager to get back to winning ways against Chesterfield next week...

Coventry City defender Chris Stokes admits that the team had “one of those days” at Scunthorpe as the Sky Blues were beaten 1-0 by the Iron.

Paddy Madden scored a late winner for the Iron in a tight game at Glanford Park which saw City defeated for the second time in the league this season.

Stokes was disappointed that the side couldn’t grind out a result or nick a winner before the home side struck with ten minutes to play.

"It’s very disappointing to lose late on," Stokes said.

"We battled hard to try and nick a winner, it was an end-to-end game which we tried to grind a result out of but unfortunately for us they got that crucial goal.

"We knew they would be fighting as they’ve had a few bad results, so we expected them to sit back and counter us. Maybe we forced it a little and played into their hands, perhaps in hindsight we could’ve been more patient but it’s just one of those days really."

The Sky Blues remain fourth in the table despite the 1-0 reverse and face Chesterfield next week at the Ricoh Arena.

Stokes is eager to see the team get back to the fluent football they have been playing and believes that playing at home is the perfect setting to see the Sky Blues bounce back.

He continued: "The first-half today in particular wasn't good enough for how we've been playing.

"Next week we’ll work hard at Ryton to work towards a different opponent, and at home we're very strong. If we play the way we have been we need to look to win that game.

"We go again next week, back at the Ricoh and let’s hope we can put things right."
