The likes of Zola, Lebeouf and Vialli had to wear the Coventry City kit, see some of the best pictures here!
Many Sky Blues fans thought they would never see a player like Gianfranco Zola in the Coventry City kit.
But on this day in 1997, a kit blunder saw the likes of the Italian legend, World Cup winner Frank Lebeouf and Premier League legend Mark Hughes play in the Sky Blues’ away kit.
Ruud Gullit’s Chelsea side had to travel to Highfield Road to face City in the Premier League, but they had to delay kick-off due to ‘technical issues.’ It was found that Chelsea’s kit man had only packed the Londoners’ blue home strip, which clashed with City’s Sky Blue and Dark blue kit.
So the likes of European cup winner Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Di Matteo had to play the game in City’s red and black chessboard away shirt!
To make the day even more memorable, City secured a magical 3-1 win against the Blues, with three second-half goals in eleven minutes from Dion Dublin, Paul Williams and Noel Whelan gave the Sky Blues side, which featured a 40-year old Gordon Strachan, a memorable three points.
Here are some of the best photos from that day!
