Coventry City Football Club’s charity partner for the 2014/15 season - Coventry Community Responders (CCR) – will be providing two medical volunteers to assist the club on matchdays.The volunteers will be assisting club physio Dave Hart’s medical team as well as giving support to the Paramedics in the ground for the rest of the season.
The CCR, which was established in 2009 by two serving police officers, attend 999 calls on behalf of the West Midlands Ambulance service and provide potentially life-saving treatment until the nearest available ambulance arrives.
They are fully trained in handling a variety of different situations including heart attacks, strokes and cardiac arrest.
There are 21 active volunteers trained to a nationally recognised level by the West Midlands Ambulance Service who – coupled with their full-time jobs – between them aim to be on duty 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
CCR have been the club’s charity partner since August, and their logo appeared on the front of the Sky Blues’ shirt for the League Cup clash with Cardiff City.
Gary Edwards, of Coventry Community Responders, said: “As an extension of our partnership with Coventry City Football Club, supporting Dave Hart's medical team is a fantastic opportunity for our volunteers, many of whom are lifelong supporters of the club.
“We are pleased that Dave has spotted the opportunity to augment his team with our skill set, which includes dealing with critical medical emergencies. We hope that our presence at matchdays will provide a further opportunity to increase public knowledge of the work we do in and around Coventry, directly helping the Ambulance Service to save lives.”
Coventry City Football Club’s marketing manager Mark Hornby added: “We are delighted to be partnered with a charity whose work often goes below the radar.
“The volunteers do some great work around Coventry and Warwickshire and really do have a massive effect on people’s lives.
“We are delighted to welcome the volunteers to the ground to support Dave Hart and the paramedics on matchdays. In the nicest possible way, we hope they are never called upon but it’s reassuring to have an additional presence at the stadium who can provide this level of support.”
