'Carsley wants me to be sharper'

Leon Clarke has revealed the interim boss Lee Carsley wants more from him...

Coventry City striker Leon Clarke has revealed interim boss Lee Carsley wants him to be ‘much sharper’ in the penalty area during matches.

The 28-year old netted his sixth goal in 11 appearances for the Sky Blues during the 2-0 win over Bury at Gigg Lane.

With the win, Coventry are currently sitting in 8th position in the League One and have a crucial Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Final second leg on Wednesday.

Despite his impressive goal tally so far, Clarke admitted Carsley wants him to do better in the area, and he is more than happy to oblige.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker said: “Lee (Carsley) took me aside and he just wants me to be smarter inside the area and use my space better.

“He wants me to be a bit sharper because we put so many balls into the box and create so many chances, if I’m a bit sharper, we can score plenty each match.

“The last three or four games, the amount of crosses we have put in has been unbelievable. I am being supplied with the ball in good positions and I only have the team to thank for that.

“He wants me to do certain things better and I will look do that.”

Clarke went on to praise the interim boss, saying he is really enjoying Carsley’s training sessions.

He added: “Since he took over, he hasn’t changed it too much but he has one or two little things around which is good.

“Everyone was happy before but it has been nice and there is a real good atmosphere about the place. Training has changed around a little bit which was nice for everyone as it freshens the place up.

“I was really happy for him to get the win at the weekend because we fully deserved it and hopefully we can get another win on Wednesday for him and the club.”
