Coventry City midfielder Blair Turgott has told the Coventry Telegraph that he is confident the Sky Blues will beat the drop.

City sit one point off the relegation places in League One and now face back-to-back home games against Port Vale on Saturday and Bradford City next Tuesday.

Turgott, who signed from West Ham in the January transfer window, believes the side have to make the most of consecutive games at the Ricoh Arena is adamant that the side will be safe come the end of the season.

“Without a shadow of a doubt we're confident," Turgott told the Coventry Telegraph.

"We have got a good group with some good quality in the defence and attack, and once we get a win or two we’ll be up and running and I think we’ll be fine.

“We have got back-to-back home games and we have to take advantage of that and crack on by winning games and pushing up the table.

“We haven’t always been getting results lately but I think our performances have still be good at Sheffield United and Preston, even though we lost that one. It’s about results at the end of the day and we need to start getting them quickly.

“If everyone sticks together I’m sure well be fine.”

Turgott made his Sky Blues debut as he come on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Barnsley on Tuesday.

The winger is eager to continue getting minutes to impress new manager Tony Mowbray as he looks to repay the faith that the club showed in him by giving him a contract.

He continued: “I like to play wide but I can come inside as well and try to get the ball in the pockets. I can play either side, right or left. I can also play in behind but I like to get the ball, be direct and try to score some goals. Hopefully I can impress in training and get some starts.

"When the gaffer told us how he wants to play it was music to my ears because that’s how I like to play.

“The new gaffer has told us the sort of manager he is and that everyone will get their chance to impress him, He said he was going to be watching the Barnsley game closely and crack on with the training.

“I was at West Ham which is obviously a big club where I wasn’t getting in the first team so I took a step out to come here. I don’t see that as a step back but just a step I have had to take in my career to show what I am about and push on and help Coventry go forward.

“Hopefully I have given a taste of what I am about and I’m just going to keep working hard in training and I’m sure my chance will come. Coventry have shown faith in me by giving me a contract and I’d like to repay that.”
