Coventry City midfielder Adam Barton expressed his frustration as the Sky Blues lost to Notts County 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena, and claims that City should have had a second half penalty when Gary Madine was brought down in the area.Garry Thompson scored the only goal of the game in the second half to condemn City to defeat. But Barton believes that there was not much of the game, however there should be no excuses moving forward.
"It's hard because we did a lot of things right today." He said. "I don't think we deserved to lose today, but we did.
"Before the game against Worcester City we looked to have turned the corner, but it hasn't happened. It is hugely frustrating.
"I spoke to Gary after the game and he said it was definitely a penalty. If it wasn't he would be the first to say but he thinks it is.
"The referee didn't give us a penalty but we still lost at the end of the day, you can't use it as an excuse. We need to score goals to win games.
"We can score goals in the team, we do work hard but at the minute its not going our way. There's not one person in the team applying themselves at the moment. If they wasn't they would be out, simple as that."
After manager Steven Pressley's message to the players on Monday, Barton believes that the 'wake-up call was what was needed to inspire the side.
He continued: "Every single player knows now that if you put a foot wrong that could be it. It's the way it should be because we are losing games at the moment.
"You want to do well for your teammates, and the manager is part of the team. Whatever he wants to do we have to back him, because we all want to turn this around.
Barton was also frustrated at the state of the pitch today. The surface looked worn in some areas, making it tough for both sides to play a passing game.
He concluded: "It looks bad and it's even worse to play on. But it's no excuse, as it's the same for both teams.
"But for team like us that train every day with the ball on the floor, it's difficult, as we can't apply what we're doing to our home matches. It's different for other teams who don't play that way, like today where they just played it in the air the whole time.
"It's frustrating that we can't play the passing style we want to at our home ground."
