Sky Blues skipper picks up the award for Community Player of the Season after attending a record number of community events throughout the season...

Sky Blues captain, Sam Ricketts claims the title of Community Player of the Year as judged by a panel of representatives from Sky Blues in the Community and Coventry City FC.

Ricketts has contributed a great deal both on and off the pitch this season, wracking up a total of 46 appearances in a Sky Blue shirt and visiting a number of schools and community schemes in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

The ex-Welsh international has been one of the most influential senior professionals at the club since joining in July 2015, having topped the leaderboard for the most appearances in Mowbray's defensive line during the current League One season.

Ricketts also gives a lot back to the community outside of football hours and has been recognised for his contribution to SBitC initiatives over the past year.

Dave Busst, Sky Blues in the Community, said: "Sam Ricketts is the Ambassador of our Education programme and has supported all projects under the badge of Premier League Reading Stars and Raise Your Game throughout the season.

"His commitment is fantastic and is a great role model for the young children of the local area. Sam goes beyond the traditional role of club captain and is great at organising other members of the team during community events. Well done Sam!"
