The Legends Day crowd were rewarded with six goals at the Ricoh Arena, as Adam Armstrong claims a brace...

League One’s top goalscorer Adam Armstrong took his goal tally to 19 for the season with a second-half brace as City pounded Bury 6-0.

The Sky Blues front man scored two in as many minutes at the Ricoh in front of a crowd that included 40 ex-Coventry players on Legends Day.

Armstrong notched his first on the 68th minute and doubled his total for the game with a second on the 70th minute. The Newcastle loanee, who celebrated his 19th birthday in the week, was delighted to get back on the scoresheet on the day that Coventry City celebrated the life of Jimmy Hill.

“It’s a great three points. It’s a team game and we’ve done brilliant to get four goals [before half-time]. Second half, to get those two goals just topped it off,” Armstrong commented.

Armstrong also gave credit to new centre-back pairing, Jack Stephens and Baily Cargill, with the latter picking up a home debut goal and the man of the match award.

“I thought Baily and Jack were unbelievable today at the back, Baily was picking the passes out as was Jack and they topped it off with a clean sheet on their home debut.”

The young striker was complimentary of the team’s performance in all areas of the pitch, as the Sky Blues recorded their first clean sheet since January 2nd.

“I thought we were quality all over the pitch, six goals and a clean sheet says it all. We want to push on now, after three loses and to bounce back like that is brilliant,” Armstrong added.

Armstrong finished by expressing his delight at registering a further two goals during a successful loan spell at City:

“I seem to get two goals quite a lot; it always seems to come in pairs. I’m happy every single time I get on the scoresheet but ultimately it was a great three points.

“I came here to score as many goals as I can; now I’m focussing on next week’s game.”
