Coventry City striker Adam Armstrong wins the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award for August

Armstrong has scored five goals already for the Sky Blues during his loan spell from Premier League side Newcastle United...

Coventry City striker Adam Armstrong has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for August.

Five goals in as many games added up to a stunning impact by the 18-year-old on loan from Newcastle United.

What impressed as much was his calm assurance and belief - evident in a 30-yard chip in the 4-0 win at Millwall.

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray said: "We're all delighted to learn that Adam has won the Player of the Month award and he definitely deserves it.

"He's had a fantastic month and we've all been really impressed with him since he joined the club in pre-season.

"Adam shows a fantastic humility on the training ground which means he is always listening to what you're saying and always looking to improve.

"With his natural enthusiasm for the game and his ability to learn, I'm sure we'll see more from him as the season goes on.”

Armstrong, who is currently in Germany on international duty with the England U19 squad, said: “It’s a great honour to win the award and totally unexpected.”

“I’m always confident I can get goals but I never thought I’d get off to the start I have done at Coventry.

“Everyone from the manager and his staff, to the players and all the fans have made me feel so welcome at the club. This award is for all of them really.

“Hopefully it won’t be the only success we can achieve together this season.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Adam’s sharp finishing and match awareness are what Coventry have been missing since the departure of Callum Wilson.

“Four goals in his first two games, including a 30-yard chip over David Marshall against Millwall, set him apart in August.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Armstrong has hit the ground running since arriving on loan from Newcastle.

“Five goals in his first five games for Coventry included impressive braces against Wigan and Millwall.”

Adam Armstrong is 8/1 to be named top goalscorer in Sky Bet League 1 this season. To bet go to: http://www.skybet.com/football/sky-bet-league-1/event/17739948
