SIGNING: Coventry City agree a new one-year deal with defender Sam Ricketts

8 July 2016

Coventry City can confirm the re-signing of defender Sam Ricketts on a year-long deal...

Coventry City defender Sam Ricketts extends his stay at the club as he agrees a new one-year deal, effective July 7th 2016.

The 34-year old was an ever-present member of Tony Mowbray’s side during the 2015/16 campaign, making 46 appearances and netting once in the 2-2 draw with Southend in August.

Ricketts, who captained Wolves to the League One title in 2013/14, wore the skippers armband for the Sky Blues last year and is set to continue his club captaincy during the upcoming season.

The Sky Blues skipper was one of Tony Mowbray’s most consistent squad members, making more appearances than any other City defender, and the manager has praised Ricketts ability to lead the team.

The City boss said: "Since I joined Coventry City, I've spoke about the importance of leadership and experience in the dressing room.

“Sam knows what it takes to get out of this division and his versatility means he can play anywhere across the back-line.

“League One will be an extremely competitive league next season and Sam will play a vital role in leading this team forward. I'm delighted to see him extend his stay at this club.”
