SIGNING: Coventry City can confirm they have agreed a contract with former Sky Blue Michael Doyle from Portsmouth

Mark Robins secures Michael Doyle as his first signing ahead of the 2017/18 campaign...

Coventry City can confirm that Michael Doyle has agreed a contract with the football club and will officially join the Sky Blues when his current deal expires with Portsmouth FC.

The vastly experienced 35-year old captained Portsmouth to the League Two title during the 2016/17 campaign, making 46 appearances and scoring one goal.

Having started his career in Scotland with Premier League side Celtic, Doyle made the move to England in 2003, signed by then Coventry manager Gary McAllister after a successful trial period with the club.

After over 250 appearances in a Sky Blue shirt, a spell at the Blades followed before Doyle joined Pompey in 2015, becoming an ever-present in Paul Cook's promotion winning side.

City boss Mark Robins said: "I'm delighted to welcome Michael back to the club. He has just captained Portsmouth to the League Two title and has almost been an ever-present throughout his career.

"He brings experience, desire and a knowhow to the team and his leadership qualities on and off the pitch can not be underestimated."
