SIGNING: Coventry City complete a half-season loan deal for Derby County forward Charles Vernam

The 20-year old joins City from Championship side Derby, after recently signing a new contract with the Rams...

The Sky Blues agree terms with Derby County for the services of highly-rated forward Charles Vernam until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Vernam has featured in three EFL Trophy fixtures this season for his parent club, and made his senior debut in the 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup, replacing Craig Bryson in the 88th minute.

The striker is the second loan signing from the Rams, with defender Farrend Rawson also reporting to Ryton last week.

Russell Slade said: “We’re delighted to finally have Charles in the building. He has an extremely impressive scoring record at U23s level and has been on the verge of Derby’s first-team setup for a while now.

“A number of clubs were monitoring the young striker so we’re especially pleased to have bought him to Coventry City.

“Charles is clever and intelligent with his movement, and is also a clinical finisher. He can play as a No.9 or No.10 and will give us another promising option in attack.”
