NEWS: Coventry City fans are being encouraged to #RunForJimmy at the Coventry Half Marathon

22 February 2017

Everyone who does the #RunForJimmy will get 2 free tickets to a CCFC home league game this season...

The Coventry Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, 19th March, and people are being asked to run in the event and raise money for the Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund.

The 13.1 mile Half Marathon will start and finish alongside Coventry Transport Museum. Runners will take a loop of the city centre on closed roads before a gradual climb out of the city towards Radford and through Allesley. The final section of the route takes runners downhill into the city centre and back to where they started at Millennium Place.

A team of around a dozen Sky Blues in the Community and Coventry City staff will be hitting the pavements for the cause.

Everyone who does the #RunForJimmy will get 2 free tickets to a CCFC home league game this season, as well as a Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund wristband and pin badge – on top of everything else you get when you take part in the Half Marathon.

The purposes of the Legacy Fund are:

• To provide activities for children and adults with disabilities
• To provide opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people in Coventry and Warwickshire
• Support and increase the activities on match days in the Sky Blues Family Zone
• To provide small grant awards to local voluntary and community organisations

David Busst, Director at Sky Blues in the Community said: “At Sky Blues in the Community, we have a dedicated team of employees that work hard to make a difference to the lives of people across Coventry and Warwickshire every day.

"I’m proud to say that some of this team will be taking on the challenge of the Coventry Half Marathon and raising money for a meaningful cause (The Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund). We’re looking forward to the event in March and hope people will show us their support”.

Councillor Abdul Khan, Cabinet Member for Events, added: “The Coventry Half Marathon is a great community event which brings lots of people together to showcase what a great city we are. In terms of actual event numbers, obviously we’re very keen to have as many people as possible taking part on the day, so it’s pleasing to hear that the Sky Blues in the Community team are running on the day and raising money for their Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund.

“I wish them all the best in their fund-raising efforts and look forward to seeing them on the race day.”
