REPORT: Coventry City 0-2 Bradford City - Sky Blues suffer defeat against the Bantams

Alex Jones and Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila seal the points for the visitors at the Ricoh arena...

Coventry City fell to defeat in Saturday's League One clash after Bradford City emerged 2-0 victors.

Alex Jones scored the Bantams first as he tapped home from a corner before Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila added a second, finishing from close range to give the away side all three points at the Ricoh Arena.

New Sky Blue boss Mark Robins made four changes to the starting XI. Chris Stokes returned to make his first appearance for the first team this calendar year. Lee Burge retained his place in goal, with Kevin Foley coming into the defence. Ben Stevenson and Callum Reilly anchored the midfield with George Thomas, Charles Vernam and Kwame Thomas in behind Stuart Beavon.

The Sky Blues created the first major opening of the game in the sixth minute. Charles Vernam whipped in a corner from the right, but the initial delivery was headed out to Ben Stevenson on the edge of the area. The young midfielder turned his defender before shooting towards the bottom left but, his shot flew past Colin Doyle and flew past the post.

City were in the ascendcy at this point, and came close again on the quarter hour mark.  Kwame Thomas headed on a ball into the box, which Stuart Beavon met with an acrobatic overhead volley, but his effort went inches wide.

Although, two minutes later, it was Bradford that almost opened the scoring. Mark Marshall delivered a ball in after good play down the flank, which was met by Charlie Wyke. However, as the away support edged of their seats to celebrate, the ball was cleared of the line.

The encounter after that chance became much more of an even affair. Both sides had half chances but neither could do anything meaningful, with the opportunities presented. Thus, the sides went in level at the break.

However, five minutes into the second half, Bradford did take the lead. Substitute Alex Jones tapped home a corner from the right into the top left to give the visitors the advantage.

A minute later Jones almost had his and Bradford’s second. The No.19 struck a fierce shot from the edge of the area, which Lee Burge tipped over the bar.

However, the Bantams did increase their lead in the 55th minute. The ball broke in midfield for the visitors and was played into Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila in the area. The forward composed himself before curling an effort towards the right corner that deflected of Burge, into the opposite corner.

After Bradford got their second, the game became quite even once more. Neither side really dominated the proceedings, as both teams looked to add a goal on the scoreboard. However, no further goals were to be scored as the match ended 2-0 in the Bantams' favour.
