City bag a home draw, but will have to face one of the EFL's most in-form sides...

The Sky Blues boss has expressed his delight at securing a home draw in the club’s Checkatrade Trophy semi-final tie.

The manager has also emphasised how important the home following will be on the night, as City make a bid for their first Wembley appearance in 30 years.

Russell Slade said: “Really pleased that we are at home in front of our own fans, a huge advantage. It is a one off knockout game, we’re looking forward to it.

“If we can create an atmosphere, it will be a great occasion. The players on the pitch take a lot from that. We’re 90 minutes from Wembley now and that is hugely exciting for the football club.”

Wycombe Wanderers are the club that stand between City and the final, with the two sides having already met in this season’s group stages.

The Sky Blues overturned a 2-0 deficit at Adams Park to win 4-2, but Gareth Ainsworth's men have gone an astonishing 16 games unbeaten in all competitions since that November meeting.

Slade added: “It may give us a psychological edge that we’ve already beaten Wycombe, but that just means they will be determined. It is a semi-final and we’ll treat it on its merits. We have a 50/50 chance and we don’t want to blow it.

“It will be like a twelfth man at home, if we can encourage the fans to come and support on the night. Everybody will benefit from that, with a trip to Wembley at stake. It is a bit of positive news in what has been a difficult season.

“The important thing is we put this in perspective, we’ve progressed but you only get one chance at it. It’ll be a keenly contested game and we’ll have to get it right on the night. Let's hope that home advantage gives us a real positive edge.”
