"We’ve sold our allocation which is fantastic and we’re going there to put on a performance for those fans." - Coventry City's Nathan Clarke

City centre-half Nathan Clarke praises the commitment of the travelling support as the club sell out Cobblers away end...

The Sky Blues progressed to the final four of the Checkatrade Trophy with a penalty shootout victory over Swansea midweek, and Clarke is pleased with the lift that has given the players ahead of League One action tomorrow.

The 33-year old arrived in the West Midlands on day one of the transfer window opening, but hasn’t managed to register a league win yet, after a series of costly late goals in recent games.

Clarke said: “The cup win has lifted everyone, a welcome distraction perhaps. It is a chance for the club to reach a Wembley final, to win on penalties was a great boost for the team.

“I’m not saying we’ve drawn a lesser team, but we’ll be at home and it is a great chance to go all guns blazing to reach the final.

“We’ve been doing just okay recently, not picking up the points we deserve. With hard work the results will come, Tuesday was a helping hand in that.”

City travel to Northampton having already played the Cobblers twice this term, in a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 win, and with the Sky Blues seven points adrift at the foot of the table a replica of the 3-1 Trophy victory would be most welcome.

Clarke added: “When the manager first came in he said he wanted real competition for places. Players not just assuming they are playing week in week out, it has to be a challenge to keep hold of the shirt.

“We need to win games, and get the points to get us out of trouble. That is the focus. It is down to us as players to do that.

“There are no givens in this league, it’ll be a tough game again. We’ve sold our away allocation which is fantastic and we’re going there to put on a performance for those fans.”
