Defender Jordan Willis is hoping a vital three points against Fleetwood Town can kick-start a positive period for the Sky Blues, as they aim to detach themselves from the drop zone.
After defeat against Chesterfield, City sit bottom of the League One table, four points adrift of safety but having played a game less than the sides directly above them.
The Cov skipper said: “It’s a situation we need to get out of and it’s a position that needs to change quickly. All the players keep a track of the table and we know it is something we need to put right and get some points on the board.
“We need a decent run of results, it’s the only way we’re going to get out of this. We are on the training pitch every day and each of us know what we have to do, so we need to put that into place.
“It’s frustrating, any team you play in you don’t want to be at the bottom of the league. Being from Coventry, with everyone that knows me understands I am playing for them as well.”
Manager Russell Slade has been busy in the transfer market since joining the Sky Blues last month, with a total of five new additions.
With defensive reinforcements signed in the shape of Kevin Foley, Nathan Clarke and most recently Farrend Rawson, Willis is confident of improvement.
“I’ve always liked competition," he said. "It keeps you on your toes and on the top of your game. If you go out there and don’t perform well you know your position in the side is in question.
“Competition in every position is healthy. Having fresh faces, especially with the quality the new lads have brought in will help. Stuart Beavon up top will run all day for you and that is similar to Callum in midfield.
“Nathan Clarke beside me is obviously experienced and Farrend Rawson has been good from what we have seen on the training pitch, so we need to take that into Saturday’s game.”
