“There are still plenty of points to play for and it is about restoring pride.” - Coventry City’s Kevin Foley

Ex-Republic of Ireland international Kevin Foley is still up for the fight, as City prepare for the trip to Gigg Lane...

Sky Blues defender Foley is quick to dispel the idea that City’s survival hopes have diminished, despite a further loss to fellow strugglers Swindon Town on Saturday.

Foley, now 32, was disappointed that his side couldn’t maker better use of the momentum from an away draw with AFC Wimbledon and a victory over Gillingham last week.

He said: “We’ve gone from two positive results, to a disappointing display. We weren’t as quick to the first and second balls, we were punished in our box despite knowing about their threats.

“When you go two behind in the first half it is an uphill challenge, we slightly improved in the second-half but too little too late.

“The best thing is we’ve got a game immediately - a positive result tomorrow doesn’t wash away the weekend but it can get you on the front foot again.”

City now face another two ties against teams in the bottom half of the table, with a trip to Bury followed by an away encounter with 18th placed Shrewsbury Town.

Foley added: “We’ve got a chance to go again on Tuesday, against teams who are in and around us, and we’ve got a chance to effect them. If we can take points off them that is all that matters.

“I think you have to be a leader, the younger lads are looking to you for advice. I’m always trying to encourage the younger boys. There are still plenty of points to play for and it is about restoring pride.”
