"I think the last few games, the motivation has been to earn a bit of pride, not to finish bottom." - Coventry City's Jordan Willis

City skipper intent on restoring pride after accepting the drop to League Two...

Local lad Jordan Willis has underlined the squad's desire to finish above bottom placed Chesterfield, in their bid to end a challenging season positively.

Blighted by a number of injuries, City travel to Glanford Park to face a Scunthorpe United side who have already confirmed their place in the end of season play-offs.

The 22-year old commented: "It's been a long, tough season with not many highs so it will be nice to try and finish the season with a win. It's important we can take something into next season and focus on rebuilding in the summer.

"I think the last few games, the motivation has been to earn a bit of pride, not to finish bottom and have a strong finish to the season.

"Our form towards the back end of the season does make you think, but we only have ourselves to blame for that. The results for the majority of the season have not been good enough."

With the club's relegation to the fourth tier already confirmed, Willis has reiterated that the City players - old and new - will be relishing the new challenge under Mark Robins, and attempting a swift return to the third division.

He added: "It is an experience you never want, but it will make us all stronger moving forward. Not many players have even experienced a relegation battle before, but with seasons to come you don't want that to happen again.

"As much as it is a negative, it could help some people's careers moving forward.

"With the squad we've got and the form we have shown since the arrival of Mark Robins, it will be interesting to see what the summer brings. Hopefully we can bring in a few players to strengthen us and bounce back."
