“We have to go and give Norwich a good game and try and impose our style of play.” - Coventry City’s Tony Mowbray

The City Manager is confident of adding some new faces to his squad this week, with the first-team set to play their final two preseason fixtures...

The Sky Blues travel to Norfolk today, in the penultimate preseason fixture before the start of the League One season on August 6th.

Having confidently dispatched Newport Town at the weekend, the City boss was pleased with his sides application to the new 3-4-3 formation, despite acknowledging that the squad is still in need of additions.

“What was pleasing is that the lads tried to put in to practise what we’ve been working on down the training ground, they worked hard and were conscientious.

“Transfers are progressing bit by bit, we are still a way off in terms of where we want the squad to be. I think back to last year and a lot of our key players came after the league started. We have to be patient, but I am pretty hopeful over the next week or so that we’ll have some signing announcements.”

With the Sky Blues set to face Norwich this evening the Manager is conscious of the pedigree that the Championship side possess among the ranks, with the Canaries having been relegated from the Premier League during the 2015/16 campaign.

The fixture will be staged at Carrow Road and Mowbray is expecting to line up against some familiar faces when the two sides meet in tonight’s 7.30pm kickoff.

“Norwich City is a different test, we had a lot of the ball against Newport and tried to dominate possession, but I don’t think we’ll be able to dominate the tempo like we did at the weekend.

“It’ll be a different kind of challenge, I am mindful that the Norwich squad played in the Premier League last year and they are a very experienced bunch of footballers. Of course we know a few of their players from seasons gone by.”

“I have managed one or two of them in my time and I know how talented they are, including footballers that have played at the top of the game.

“It’ll be tough considering where we are at the moment, the team is very youthful. We have to go and give Norwich a good game and try and impose our style of play, let’s see how we get on.”
