The 35-year old continues his coaching progression, overseeing another U23s win...

Ex-skipper Samuel Ricketts was in the dugout to take charge of the club's U23s for a second time, as they ran out deserved 2-0 winners against Bristol City.

Jack Hickman scored a wonderful solo strike, before Cian Harries wrapped up the victory in the second-half, sweeping home from a Bilal Sayoud cross.

“We’re pleased with the win," Ricketts said. "There were some really good parts in the game but also things to work on. The players all applied themselves really well and that is all you can ask for, but it was a good victory.

“There were a few younger lads from the U18s, Jak Hickman scored a fantastic goal. I asked him before the game, does he like going forward and it was a nice surprise to see him score such a good goal.

“We’ve got some good young players here and we’ve continued that on from previous years. With the position the club is in, it is probably beneficial because these players get a chance in the first team if they perform. We have to blood young players through and give them a chance to succeed.”

After limited minutes with the first-team squad in recent weeks, both Jodi Jones and Ruben Lameiras featured in the win, playing 60 minutes apiece.

The ex-defender added: “I think it’s important throughout the season to maintain the fitness levels of all players, and that includes Ruben and Jodi, who featured today. To be fair to them they’ve got a good attitude and rather than train they wanted to get game minutes.

“It is important we gave them a good hour. I said to them before the game, if you’re going to come and play you need to do it right. I thought they played well, they showed a good attitude and brought a little bit of experience and quality to the side.

“I’m really enjoying the coaching side. I’ve got my beliefs. The team need to have a structure with and without the ball and I am enjoying taking that next step in my career."
