City suffer defeat at the Ricoh, as Nicky Ajose scores twice for the visiting Swindon Town...

Manager Russell Slade gave a frank and honest assessment of his sides performance, as the Sky Blues suffered defeat against Swindon Town.

Despite a late George Thomas consolation goal, City weren't able to build on the momentum of a first win under Slade, as two Nicky Ajose goals turned out to be decisive for the away side.

“To be honest, I didn’t see it coming. We probably had the best training week we’ve had, in terms of the prep. We got that right in my opinion, but what we didn’t do was execute it like we should have,” Slade said.

“We talked about Nicky Ajose, he will find space around you. He is not going to be a threat outside of the box, but inside the area he will cause problems. He proved to be the difference between the two sides.

“They were better in both boxes, but there wasn’t much in the game until the goal. We both had four chances and then they get the two goals which makes it really difficult for us. It was a disappointing performance overall.”

The Sky Blues sit at the foot of the league One table, eleven points adrift of Oldham Athletic in 20th, and Slade admits his side won't earn safety if they cannot value the importance of consistent performances.

He added: “You wouldn’t think we have a chance after watching that today. But then again, coming off against Gillingham people felt we may have an outside chance. There lies the problem, there needs to be more consistency.

“We need to show the qualities that are sometimes on display on a more consistent basis, starting this Tuesday. There is not much time to dust ourselves off and go again, but we must look to improve on today.

“Of course the dressing room is disappointed, we’ve just lost a football match and an important game against a side near us in the league table. We all know how important that could have been to us.”
