“You don’t want to be content only playing the final third in games, so you have to push yourself." - Coventry City's Jodi Jones

Forward Jodi Jones played 60 minutes for City’s U23s midweek, contributing to the 2-0 win against the Robins.

After impressive cameo appearances in the recent AFC Wimbledon and Gillingham fixtures - where City have amassed four points from a possible six - the teenager is eyeing up a more regular first XI spot.

Jodi said: “It was a decent game, it was good to get some minutes under my belt because I haven’t been featuring regularly recently. I’ve been coming on last 20 or 30 minutes so I needed to keep up my match fitness.

“You don’t want to be content only playing the final third in games, so you have to push yourself to maintain that fitness and work on the areas you can improve to start the games, rather than come on.

“It was great to finally pick up a win against Gillingham, but we were still a little disappointed that we didn’t pick up maximum points from that and the Wimbledon game. We just need to push on and continue improving.”

A real impact sub, Jones was introduced late on in the half against Wimbledon and broke the deadlock, scoring his first league goal of the campaign, and is City's most used substitute across the course of this season.

“I feel like I am making an impact when I am coming on," the winger added. "I scored against Wimbledon and I think I have done well the majority of times I have been brought on to change the game in the final minutes.

“The team has begun to pick up a little, there has been a few positive signs. and I want to be apart of that. It’s good to be involved in anyway, but you obviously want to start from the beginning and contribute as much as you can.

“I’ve come off the bench the most of anybody this season, and more recently I have been making an impact - the last few I have come on alongside Yakubu and we link up quite well."
