ON THIS DAY: Saturday 19th January 1980 - Dyson hits the winner against the Reds

19 January 2017

The Sky Blues entered the game against Liverpool looking to end their unbeaten record...

Paul Dyson headed the only goal in a fantastic 1-0 win over reigning champions Liverpool, ending their long unbeaten run.

Dyson headed home after six minutes in front of 31,644 supporters. He played nearly 150 games for City until he transferred to Stoke City in the infamous summer exodus of 1983.

His partnership with Gary Gillespie had seen the pair progress through the youth ranks before both departed within weeks of each other. Dyson's move to Stoke would see him relegated with a then lowest-ever points tally for a top flight side in 1984.
