The home side were one up inside the opening ten minutes, as captain Marko Stankovic converted a free-kick 20-yards out. The Sky Blues then began to grow in confidence and momentum, but were pinned back again as Stankovic pounced on a mistake by Ryan Haynes to double the home sides lead.

Ruben Lameiras looked to have been fouled inside the box on the half-hour mark, as Andy Rose found the Portuguese forward on the edge of the technical area. He wriggled his way passed a Sturm Graz defender and looked to have been unfairly tackled, nothing given by the referee.

The Sky Blues looked threatening in possession, with Ruben Lameiras and Jodi Jones both causing problems in the attacking third. Marvin Sordell had a sight of goal early in the second-half, engineering a yard of space and taking the shot on early, producing a good save from Ehmann.

Again with City pressing and creating chances, Sturm Graz capitalised on a well worked corner as Hierländer crept in at the back post to steer the ball home and put the home side three goals to the good. 

Mowbray elected to make a triple sub on the hour-mark, with George Thomas, Marcus Tudgay and the trialist replacing Jones, Sordell and Lameiras. 10-minutes later, Ryan Haynes, Sam Ricketts and Vladimir Gadzhev departed the field and on came Devon Kelly-Evans, Darragh Leahy and Kyle Spence. 

Spence looked threatening from the off and linked well with Marcus Tudgay to advance City further up the pitch. And it was the Academy graduate’s quick feet that deservedly won City a penalty on the 88th minute, with the experienced Tudgay stepping up to convert the spot-kick.

Two minutes later Tudgay was in again, calmly placing the ball to the keeper’s bottom right and reducing the deficit to 3-2. That proved to be the last action of the game as the referee called time on the second-half. Some encouraging play from City, with two clinical finishes from striker Tudgay to open his scoring tally for pre-season.
