The Sky Blues Academy graduate is eyeing up a place in the starting XI when City host Doncaster Rovers on Friday...

The Sky Blues have had a positive start to the impending season, having beaten Nuneaton, Rugby Town and Newport County during the pre-season period.

Academy graduate Kyle Spence has enjoyed an impressive start to the year back at Ryton, having revealed that he worked alongside a personal trainer and athletics coach to maintain his fitness over this summers off-season.

The 19-year old started against non-league neighbours Rugby Town last week and capped a lively performance with a well taken goal and an assist. Spence also impressed during the Sky Blues pre-season tour of Austria, prompting the City boss Tony Mowbray to suggest the ex-Palace forward has a chance at the first-team squad this season.

Spence commented: “I’m feeling great, it is good to be back playing football. I am really grateful to be involved in the first-team setup at the moment, training with some of the senior players is definitely helping me develop.

“I was doing a lot of personal training sessions over the summer and a lot of training with an athletics coach too. I have spoken with the gaffer, he has told me to keep working hard and progressing as I am. He wants me to keep pushing for the first-team and see what comes of it.

“I’m definitely hungrier to get myself in and around the first-team, the experience I’m gaining at the moment is really helping that. The aim is to make an impact in the final two preseason games and try to get myself back on the scoresheet, maybe even a start on Friday."
