“Overall we were strong defensively, solid in possession and believed we should have scored more goals.” - Coventry City’s Jordan Turnbull

The Sky Blues centre-half believes City could have taken all three points from Saturday's encounter with the Cobblers...

Defender Jordan Turnbull was left disappointed on his home debut after only taking a point, as the Sky Blues drew 1-1 with Northampton Town at the Ricoh Arena.

It was another case of missed chances as a second-half Marcus Tudgay equaliser couldn’t inspire City on to that elusive league win.

Jodi Jones made the difference from the bench, setting up Tudgay for the Sky Blues’ goal and Turnbull felt it was a performance that merited more for his side: “I think overall we were strong defensively, solid in possession and believed we should have scored more goals,” he said.

“We always knew they were going to be a threat with that long ball, but I think at the end we were trying to push for the win, which on occasions left us short at the back.

“Overall we are disappointed not to get the three points as we felt we were the better side for large periods of the game.”

The defender, who signed from Southampton for in the summer, was making his Ricoh Arena debut after signing a three-year deal at the club.

Alongside stand-in captain Jordan Willis, 19-year old Cian Harries partnered Turnbull in the heart of defence, and despite the Academy graduates tender age he put in another mature performance.

“Cian is a special talent. He is fantastic on the ball and he will grow to be more physical and have a better understanding of the game,” Turnbull explained.

“I think he did really well and for the majority of the game we looked solid in defence. There was one lapse of concentration from the defence as a whole, but that is something we will work on and improve upon for future games. As time goes by we will only get better and the results will follow.”
