City take on Northampton in League One duty as they make a bid for their first three points of the season...

Today’s match sees the Sky Blues take on in-form Northampton Town at the Ricoh Arena – the first League fixture between the sides in nearly 50 years.

The visitors are on an unbeaten run stretching back to January, and are also undefeated in League competition since December. Mid-week’s EFL Cup penalty victory over Premier League West Brom extended their run to an impressive 29 games in all competitions.

Rob Page brings his side into the game looking for their first win in League One competition this season following four consecutive draws.

Coventry midfielder Chris McCann expects a tough challenge, but has called for the more experienced players in the squad to help guide the younger ones during the tough periods. “This league is tough and sometimes you get dropped off in the deep-end and you have to deal with it," McCann said.

“You can’t shriek away from the challenge. We have some experienced players in the team and we need to stand up and be counted. It’s our job to try and drag them along. As a professional you have to take pride in what you do and nobody wants to get beaten so you work hard to change that.”

Despite results not matching the intensity of performance of late, McCann believes there are things to build on as the Sky Blues go in search of their first league win this season.

He added: “Since I’ve been here the performances have been generally quite good in spells. Ideally we want to do that for the full match, but I think there are positives signs.

“I think most teams will find it difficult once we start clicking and then hopefully we can start taking our chances and begin to punish teams.

“The results are there for everybody to see and we cannot hard from that fact, but we all believe that will turn around sooner rather than later.”
