Shaw laments lack of leadership

Richard Shaw wants the players to start performing...

Coventry City caretaker boss Richard Shaw wants to see more leadership in the dressing room after the 2-0 loss to Tranmere.

After Coventry had dominated large portains of the game with Carl Baker hitting the post and another effort cleared off the line, the home side made City pay for not taking their chances.

Jake Cassidy and player of the month Andy Robinson scored in the last fifteen minutes of the game to condemn the Sky Blues to defeat and Shaw commented he wants to see leaders on the pitch.

Shaw said: "We work hard all week on the training pitch and you are trusting the players when they cross that white line, that they are going to get the job done.

"I think it is something you are born with or your not. You are born with making the right decisions, you are born with the ability to be a leader.

"Along with that desire, you have to say some of us don't really have it. That's the bottom line. You can't coach that.

"You can coach passing and the system we play but you can't coach that willingness to be in that position and make sure you are giving it your all for the side.

"What is happening at the moment should really hurt the players and hopefully that can draw that out of them."

Coventry are still waiting for their first league win of the season despite Capital One Cup and Johnstone Paint Trophy triumphs against Dagenham and Redbridge, Birmingham City and Burton Albion.

Shaw continued saying he hopes the players begin to realise how good they can be, like when the side have played in cup competitions this season.

He added: "It is strange how the results are turning out for us. You look at it on paper and compare the two sides, we definitely look the stronger.

"But when you are up there, you can play without fear. If you make a mistake, it's not as crucial when you are flying at the top of the table.

"But when we make a mistake at the moment, it ends up in the back of the net. When we make a mistake in front of goal at 0-0, it makes everybody anxious and that worry sets in.

"In terms of the side at the moment, the only way we are going to start winning games is by playing with a bit of confidence. I am sure that first win will come and we have to get that result out of our system."
